1.      SPORTS NEWS: BOROUGH ATHLETICS CHAMPIONS!!: a) On 19/1/10 we competed in the borough regional Sportshall Athletics tournament held at Tooting Leisure Centre. Morris Tolaram coached and supported our team of 28 Y4/5/6 boys and girls, accompanied by Isobel Hood and many parents. I went down to watch for a short while and out of 12 schools our Girls were joint first and our Boys were runaway winners so AGAIN Ravenstone were regional champions! At the Grand Borough finals on 2/2/10 at Battersea as one of the top 6 Wandsworth schools in a tense nail-biting final our team, coached by Morris, Emily Domaingue and Fiona Westwood, emerged as OVERALL BOROUGH CHAMPIONS!!! Not bad out of 56 schools! We are very proud of the whole squad, who now go to represent Wandsworth in the Inner London County Championships on 10th March in Brixton! The day before that our Y3/4 athletes are in a local tournament in Battersea.

2.      PARENT GOVERNORS: I am very pleased that so many people put themselves forward as parent governors and delighted with the large number of votes cast. It really shows how much our parents support our school! In a very close contest (so close that we had to have a re-count) Daniel Russell and Diccon Beeny were elected to serve as parent governors, just ahead of Asifa Dar, Louise Eyeington and Matthew White. Many congratulations to them and thanks to Asifa Dar, Daniel Russell and Matthew White for helping with the count on Friday 15th January.

3.      GOVERNOR TRAINING: On Saturday 23rd January the Governors of Ravenstone met with Sian Mathias, Head of Governor Services at Wandsworth, for a training session on the role of governors in school improvement, how to be an effective governing body and what the new Ofsted framework means for governance. After that we discussed the proposed new website, how to develop and retain key staff and sustainability throughout the whole school.            Leah Milton (Chair of Governors)

4.      HAITI DISASTER: Many thanks for your generosity and compassion in supporting our fund-raising in aid of the Haiti disaster fund. The children suggested the events for 22nd January: Hats for Haiti and the cake sale. Altogether, we collected just over £2000 which was sent immediately to DEC (The Disaster Emergency Committee).

5.      PTA EVENTS: There are quite a lot of PTA events planned for the coming weeks, including tomorrow’s Rugby and Beer festival, Bollywood Night, Spring Tea etc. Come along, get involved and have fun!

6.      PARENTAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Many thanks to the several families who have recently made financial contributions directly to School Fund. These contributions will be used to help finance a range of events such as school trips, workshops, visiting performers and artists etc and will benefit all of the children in Ravenstone.

7.      RAVENSTONE WEBSITE: We are currently exploring our options as we intend to improve the website which is now well over four years old. All of our Home Guides are now on the site but we are aware that this has taken longer than it should. (Y6 have a separate site). We should have a completely new site in place after Easter. Please bear with us.

8.      RAVENSTONE/YAMERIGA LOGO COMPETITION: Many thanks to all the children and families who produced logo designs for the partnership between Ravenstone and Yameriga. Congratulations to the winner Khava C (Y3) and the runners-up Viviana H (Y2) and Theo G (Y4). Their ideas were superb and we will be having a workshop for them to amalgamate their three designs into one logo.                                                                                  Mary Hargreaves

9.      HALF TERM: Finally, a reminder that school closes for half term on Friday 12th February and reopens on Monday 22nd February. Enjoy Half term!

With Best Wishes
