Cycle to School Week

Cycle to School Week was a great success. Thank you to all parents, children and staff who made the effort to cycle in.

On Wednesday morning cyclists met Mr Huie at the corner of Elmfield Road and Childebert Road to officially open the new two way cycle route. The official opening was carried out by Keelan Philips and Mario from Style Bicycle.

We were also supported by Alan Millington, Leah Milton (Chair of Governors), Jane Great Holder (STP Officier from Wandsworth Council), Joanthan Freeman and Jon Irwin (Wandsworth Cycle Campaign) who have all been supporting Ravenstone on all issues related to cycling.

This new two way cycle route will allow some children to cycle to and from school while avoiding the busy main roads. Mr Millington was so excited with this new route as he will now use it to cycle home.

Mario and Keelan later performed two assemblies at school. They showed children some of their tricks and got Jack and Mr Horsburgh to have a go.

A Special Visitor!

Article Thumbnail

Ravenstone had an unexpected visitor today - Father Christmas!  According to Father Christmas he had been flying across London when his sleigh broke down and he had to make an emergency landing on Ravenstone's roof.  He had heard about all the fantastic children and he was very pleased that he was able to deliver some early Christmas presents.  He wasn't able to stay long as he said he was very busy at the moment and he needed to fix his sleigh before Monday night.

Happy Christmas Everyone!

December 18th

We all enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch - roast turkey and all the trimmings!

Scooter Training

Article Thumbnail

On Monday 10th December all pupils from Reception, Y1 and Y2 took part in Scooter Training organised by the council and run by Rupert, Lawrence and Adrea. The sessions ran from 9am and finished at 2.30pm. We would like to thank all the pupils who allowed other children to use their scooters, the council for offering the training and the super instructors.

As well as having fun out in the playground, they practised some exercises that helped develop their balance and control.  They were also reminded of some important safety messages:
• Never scoot on the road
• Always stop and wait for the adult you are with before crossing a road
• Look out for cars coming out of driveways – the driver may not see you
• Stay close to the adult you are with
• Be polite.  Be especially considerate of the elderly, very young children, dogs, (who may be unpredictable)
o If people are passing you on the pavement, check your speed (slow down if necessary) and make sure there is room.
o If you are passing someone on the pavement, check your speed (slow down if necessary), make sure there is room, say excuse me and thank you

Scooters are great fun and a great way to get exercise while you travel.  Follow these tips to help our scooterers stay safe and to make sure they don’t create a hazard for other people.

Fashion show for eco-week

Article Thumbnail

Ravenstone School celebrated the end of their “eco week” in style with its very own fashion show.
The week focused on the environment, planet and climate change - with students learning how to recycle, re-use and reduce what we use.
As part of the activities, they gathered old paper and leaflets and pulped them to make recycled paper.
They then used the paper to write letters to local MP Sadiq Khan about what the government should do to help the environment.
The week ended with an eco fashion show – where all the clothes were made from recycled materials.
Mr Khan, who attended the event, said: “The Eco fashion show was a great way to finish off what’s been a really informative week for the children at Ravenstone School.

“It’s clear from speaking to them that they’ve learnt a great deal about saving the environment, and in a fun and innovative way.

“I’ll be reading all the letters sent to me by the children and make sure their views are heard by the government.

“The message is clear: we can all play our part in saving our environment no matter our age.”
