ENVIRONMENT

At Ravenstone we recognise that it is important to have high standards and expectations of all who are part of our thriving community.

We are lucky to have such amazing spaces, inside and out! Check out this video to see our grounds.

We are proud of our display boards around the school where we celebrate the amazing work by the pupils.  Each corridor that you visit across the school is a clear celebration of all we do. The corridors are clear, bright and colourful and demonstrate how the staff has embraced the promotion of work and the displays are of a high standard. We have lockers for Years 1-6, replacing the messy coat pegs and relocated the coat pegs for Nursery and Reception, the corridors are now beautifully clear and clutterfree!

LOG TANGLE

Article ImageLike many of our exciting outdoor features our amazing new Log Tangle was made possible by the fund raising efforts of the Friends of Ravenstone. It was officially opened on Monday 2nd November 2015.  Members of the playground committee children and staff cheered as local MP Sadiq Khan cut the ribbon.

Adventure Trail

Article ImageThe trail offers climbing-frames and ramps, swinging tyres, balancing beams and other obstacles. The idea is to get around it without touching the ground. Next time you visit the school, why not try to beat the record of 80 seconds?!

Library

Article ImageOur library has a nautical theme with fresh coloured panels, new sofas and curtains most of which was made possible through PTA funding. The school is grateful to the Foyle Trust who donated computer systems and lots of imaginative material to encourage reading.

One section is laid out as a conventional library whilst a separate area is used as a listening area with audio books and also as a studio for animation and sound recording.

We also have a dedicated team of teaching assistants, parents and Year 6 childre  who ensure our stock of books is kept up to date and in top condition as well as reading stories to the children and teaching them how to use the library!

Rose Oak Amphitheatre

Article ImageBuilt in 2003, this unique 60-seat structure is made entirely from oak.
Each child in the school produced a ceramic figure according to the theme “Tales and Fables from Around the World”. These are actually housed within the frame of the structure.

This initiative was partially funded by government grants but we were also fortunate to receive generous support from the Rotary Club and Laing Homes. In addition, the PTA raised significant sums from numerous events.

It is used as a performance area for some class work and for more public events such as our very successful summer Fairs.

Climbing wall

Article ImageAlso completed in 2003 and once again designed with input from the children. There was also a donation from Sir Walter St John's Educational Charity; building and design was by Arts Desire.

As well as one fixed computer suite with laptop PCs we have a set of MacBook Pros,  four sets of iPads as well as webcams for animation, video cameras and digital cameras.

All classes are equipped with interactive whiteboards and both halls have projection facilities.
