Events & Fundraising
The PTA runs a number of events on an annual basis; last year it was 20. These include the principle fund-raising events of the Summer and Christmas Fairs and the much loved cake sales three times a year!
Some events are pure fund-raising events while others are merely fun activities for the Ravenstone children, such as Ravenstone’s Got talent – our version of The X Factor, and our International Evening, a celebration of all the ethnic groups represented in the school.
Other examples of past events (please note that this list does not include events and activities that are organised and managed by the school or teachers):
PTA Annual General Meeting. Each September you are invited to join the PTA AGM to hear about our achievements over the previous academic year, details on how funds are being allocated, events planned for the next year and also to vote for people who have nominated themselves for roles in the PTA.
Autumn Tea. How many cakes and biscuits do you think the children at Ravenstone can eat in an hour? Come along to find out – it’s hundreds! Our hall becomes the bakery shop and our children relish the opportunity to choose their own goodies. So whether you’re a rocky roader or courgette cake guru, please get baking and join in the fun. We replicate this cake fest on two other occasions: during the Spring Tea and the Cake & Craft Sale each year.
Christmas Fair. Our school becomes winter wonderland for a fun-packed afternoon that the children adore. There is everything from Santa’s Grotto with real elves, to a Secrets Room where children choose and wrap presents for their family, and a Christmas Wish Tree. The big kids will be happy too with homespun crafts, christmas decorations, mince pies and mulled wine!
Christmas Tree Sale. Every year we have a Christmas tree ordering service at he Christmas Fair where parents can select the height of your tree and collect from school a couple of weeks before the big day. The trees are really high quality and it avoids the chaos of buying from a local market.
School Disco. With separate sessions for younger and older children this is your chance to see some great moves on the dance floor. With our resident professional DJ’s Freddie & Morris who will bring a smile to everyone’s face.
Early Years Party. This is a special treat for our youngest scholars. The nursery playground is transformed to a toddler paradise with games, entertainment and yummy treats. We have even been known to have donkey rides!
Cake & Craft Sale. The berries are ready and it’s time to use them. From blueberry muffins to raspberry meringues, a homemade treat is always welcome. So, let the kids get sticky fingers and for you, a delicious slice of Victoria sponge with a cup of tea. But don’t miss the wonderful craft fair with sensational home-made works of art from our talented parents.
Summer Fair. Roll up...Roll up its time to play some games and have some fun at the most eagerly awaited event of the year! We have a great variety of stalls from Crockery Smash and Splat the Rat to Tombola and bouncy castle, there is something for everyone. When the school gates open, the enjoyment begins and laughter can be heard throughout Balham.
Calendar. The school calendar has been a huge success. It includes beautiful pictures of our children and with useful dates of school holidays, inset days and PTA events, it is invaluable. The calendar runs for a full year (January to December) and is produced in time for the Christmas Fair.
We also run several other events as and when parents suggest them and run with them. Some of our recent events include:
Sports on the big screen
Auction of Promises
Ravenstone’s Got Talent
Christmas Shopping Evening
Ladies Vitality Evening
The PTA also run a number of schemes throughout the year that provide a regular income to the school so please support them.
School Clothing. Joggers, tee shirts, coats and sweatshirts with the Ravenstone logo are available and they reasonably priced and great quality.
Sponsorship. Local estate agent Aspire sponsors our Summer and Christmas Fair each year from putting up boards outside our homes to advertise the events. Sainsbury’s sponsored our Sports Day this year by providing mountains of fabulous fresh fruit and drinks.
Make your own Christmas Cards. This is a scheme that the children love. The children are invited to produce their very own Christmas card, reproduced for you to send to friends and family.
Booking Your Holiday. The ethically sound agents, Travel Matters, pay £10 to the school per Ravenstone family member booking a holiday through them.
