Book Week 31st March - 4th April 2008
Here at Ravenstone Primary School books are important and book week is about showing that. Book week was organised by Catherine Dowler, Literacy co-ordinator, we asked her why it was important. “It’s to have fun with books and to encourage and inspire you.” Book week was partially funded by the Ravenstone PTA.
There were lots of things happening during the week, for example:
- Milton John – actor
- Fairy Tale Theatre Group
- Iroko Theatre Group
- Savior Parota – writer/storyteller
- Tom Avery – explorer/writer
- Terence Blacker – story teller
- Drumming workshop
- Parents also came in to share their experiences and their jobs as editors, writers, producers etc.
As part of book week children and teachers dress up as one of their favourite characters from a book. Andrea in Year 3 said “I’ll be Superman. I read it when I was 3 years old and its my favourite book.”
We all agree that book week has been so much fun and hope it will come around again. We spoke to the Deputy Head, Ms Furnell: “After the success of maths and science week, we are delighted book week has been another success.”
