Music at Ravenstone

Music is a huge and important part of life at Ravenstone. We have an amazing music teacher and choir master, MJ Paranzino, who is very keen on developing musical skills from a young age. As a result, every Key Stage 2 class learns a musical instrument.

Choir

Year 6 – Harmonica
Year 5 – Percussion (and clarinet for those who continued from last year)
Year 4 – trumpet
Year 3 – Recorder

Year 4 trumpets! Clarinets! Spitfire and guests

Ms Paranzino recently held a concert at St. Mary’s Church, Balham. It was hugely successful, raising over £400 for Demelza Children’s Hospice. Year 6 played ‘Oh Susannah’ and ‘You are my sunshine’ on the harmonicas with Year 3 on recorders. Year 4 played ‘Peas Pudding Hot’ and ‘London Bridge’ on trumpets with Y3 on recorders again.

Several musical groups performed. One of the performers, Jude Ryan-Gray Y6 told us: “The attitude between bands was very good and when one band is stuck on lyrics or something, they go to another group for help, which I think is really nice.”

MJ Paranzino helped a lot of musical groups here at Ravenstone. Mina Rodel said: “Ms Paranzino has been a great help, she has encouraged us and given us inspiration when our minds have gone blank."

Some of the other teachers are musical too. Anthony Turi often performs at school events playing guitar and singing. “One of the great things about teaching here at Ravenstone is watching all the young talent unfolding as a result of all the music we do.”
