Playtime activities
Playtime is an important part of a Ravenstone child’s day as it is a chance to break away from the hard work going on in the classroom. To enhance the children’s enjoyment at playtime activities are organised and equipment is put out for children to take and use for the whole playtime.
Amber (Y4) said her favourite pieces of equipment are the tennis balls and hula hoops. Her favourite games are basketball and King Squares. “For those of you readers who don’t know what King Squares is, well, it involves a square divided into quarters painted on the ground. A person stands in each square hitting the ball between the 4 squares trying to get other people out.”
Mandee organises most of the activities and she said that because of these activities, children are learning to share and make friends. She also says that the game she sees most commonly played is skipping. There is also a group of Year 6 students who are play leaders. They have been trained by Mandee and organise activities too.
A few years ago, the PTA launched a huge project to improve the playground space. This was incredibly successful and they raised funds to build a peace garden, amphitheatre, trim trail, climbing wall, seating, flower pots and play equipment. They also buy new games for us to play with.
Play is fantastic at Ravenstone due to the hard work of Mandee and the play leaders.
