Pupil Leadership
MORE THAN RESULTS - WE GROW CONFIDENT, COMPASSIONATE YOUNG PEOPLE
At Ravenstone, we believe that giving pupils leadership opportunities helps them develop confidence, responsibility and a sense of belonging within the school community. By taking on leadership roles, children learn to listen to others, share their ideas, and work collaboratively to make a positive difference. These opportunities also nurture important life skills such as communication, organisation and problem-solving, while encouraging pupils to take pride in shaping the culture of our school.

Our Year 6 Head Pupils and Deputy Head Pupils are role models for the entire school community, chosen for their leadership, integrity and commitment to making our school the best it can be. Each year, pupils and staff vote for two Head/Deputy Pupils, who work closely with the Leadership Team to represent pupil voice and lead with pride.
They take an active role in school life, helping to plan and lead key events such as assemblies, charity days, and special celebrations. Half-termly meetings with the Headteacher ensure that pupil voice and pupil leadership are threaded through all we do at Ravenstone. They welcome visitors, support younger pupils, and speak confidently on behalf of the school during tours and presentations. Their responsibilities include supporting on open mornings, gathering feedback from peers, and working with staff to bring positive changes.
Our Head Pupils and Deputies are confident, kind and responsible leaders who promote respect, inclusion and teamwork. They embody our values and inspire others through their actions, celebrate achievements across the school, and help ensure that every child feels heard, valued and proud to be part of our community.
Our Year 6 House Captains play an important role in leading their houses with pride and responsibility. Our six houses – Brompton, Greenwich, Hyde, Regents, Richmond and Victoria – vote for two captains each year, who work alongside the Leadership Team to keep our House system running smoothly.
The House Captains plan half-termly house mornings, in which the children join in their houses for team building activities. They are given training to expertly plan and lead these, encouraging teamwork, participation and a strong sense of community as they do so. They add up house points each half term and present winners in assembly, before planning and leading the half-termly house party for the house with the most points.
Our confident, responsible captains motivate others and work with children from across the school, whilst supporting teachers with organisation, promoting fairness and inclusion, and celebrating the achievements of their peers.
Our School Council represents the voice of our pupils and helps make our school the best it can be for everyone. Each class elects representatives who meet regularly to share ideas, discuss school life, and make decisions that benefit the whole school community.
The councillors listen carefully to the views of their classmates and bring their ideas to meetings, where they work together to agree on actions and projects. These might include improving playtimes, planning fundraising events, or finding new ways to make learning even more enjoyable and inclusive.
Our School Council members take pride in sharing updates in class and assemblies, speaking confidently on behalf of others, and working alongside teachers to make positive changes. Through this role, pupils learn about leadership, teamwork and active citizenship, helping every child to feel that their voice matters.
Our Eco Council Representatives play a vital role in promoting sustainability and environmental awareness across the school. Each year, children from Years 1 to 6 vote for representatives who are passionate about making a difference and leading eco-friendly initiatives.
Working closely with staff and the Leadership Team, the Eco Council meets regularly to discuss ideas, plan projects and take action on key issues such as recycling, energy saving, composting and improving green spaces. They help monitor eco practices across the school and encourage others to make thoughtful choices that benefit our planet.
Eco Council members will share in assemblies, and organise whole-school events and initiatives such as Walk and Wheel, Earth and World Environment Day and litter picks.
Our responsible, enthusiastic representatives inspire others to care for the world around them. They work collaboratively with children and adults, promote fairness and inclusion, and celebrate the positive impact of small changes made together.
Chosen for their responsibility, teamwork and dedication to our environment, Raven Rangers play a vital role in looking after our chickens, maintaining school spaces, and nurturing The Wild Space. They are selected for their commitment to sustainability, kindness, and their ability to lead by example.
Raven Rangers take pride in their duties, which include feeding and caring for the chickens, ensuring outdoor areas are tidy and welcoming, and helping to protect and enhance The Wild Place for all pupils to enjoy. They support in looking after Ravenstone’s crested gecko, Beans, and work closely with the Headteacher to support outdoor learning and encourage others to respect and care for our shared spaces.
They meet regularly to reflect on their impact, share ideas, and help shape the future of environmental learning at Ravenstone. Whether they’re planting, cleaning or educating others, Raven Rangers lead with purpose and positivity.
Our Raven Rangers are thoughtful, dependable and passionate about nature. They promote respect for living things, celebrate the beauty of our surroundings, and help ensure every child feels connected to the world around them. Through their actions, they inspire others to care, protect and grow.
Our B's Buddies play a significant role in promoting emotional wellbeing, kindness, and positive behaviour across the school. Each year, a selection of Year 5s are chosen to represent the values of empathy, respect, and resilience and play an important role in support the children during lunchtimes. Our B's Buddies are specially trained by our school PATHS mentor to support positive play and help children build friendships during playtime.
Working closely with staff and the PSHE Leads, B's Buddies help introduce and model key social-emotional learning strategies found within the PATHS curriculum. During their time on the playground they support their peers in recognising and managing feelings, solving problems calmly, and building strong friendships.
Our thoughtful, encouraging representatives inspire others to make good choices, celebrate differences, and look after their own and others’ wellbeing. They work collaboratively with children and adults, promote fairness and inclusion, and help create a safe, supportive school environment where everyone can thrive.
Our Year 5 School Librarians play an important role in helping to run our school library with pride, care and responsibility. Each year, pupils in Year 5 can apply to become librarians, working closely with the Reading Lead and teaching staff to ensure our library remains an organised, inclusive and inspiring place for everyone.
School Librarians support the daily running of the library by sorting and shelving books correctly, tidying reading spaces, and ensuring the library remains a calm, welcoming environment where classes and pupils can enjoy reading for pleasure. They help make sure a range of exciting, diverse and age-appropriate books are displayed and promoted, championing stories and information that reflect different cultures, experiences and perspectives. A key part of the School Librarian role is to monitor the condition of books and report any that are damaged or in need of replacement to the Reading Lead.
Our librarians develop strong communication skills, helping other pupils and teachers find books or resources, explaining library rules clearly. They demonstrate excellent reading and research skills, recommending books to their peers, promoting reading for pleasure and helping children access high-quality texts that support learning across the curriculum.
School Librarians also help ensure that all children have access to diverse, accurate and inclusive information, supporting an environment where everyone feels welcome, regardless of background, ability or identity.
Confident and responsible, our Year 5 School Librarians act as role models across the school. They promote a love of reading, while encouraging others to explore books.
Our Year 6 Digital Leaders are trusted role models, chosen for their passion, responsibility, and commitment to improving digital life across the school. They support the use of technology in classrooms, around the school, and promote online safety. Confident, inclusive and forward-thinking, they inspire others to use technology responsibly and creatively, as well as look after hardware from chromebooks and iPads, to the assembly microphones and event sound systems. Their leadership helps ensure every pupil feels empowered and safe in our ever-evolving digital environment.
