Ravenstone Primary School

THE HIVE

Welcome to The Hive

We have two classes in our Hive team, Richard's Class and Sarah's Class. Emilia, Simon, Dash, Paul and Lynn are our wonderful support staff. Krupa is our amazing SALT. Our OT is Saskia and she has been an excellent asset since joining the team in November '22.

PE will be on a Tuesday for both classes, so pleae ensure the children come to school in their PE kits.  Swimming will happen on a Thursday.  A timetable for this will be sent via parentmail.

 Our email addresses are:

Coats
The weather is very unpredictable, so the children need to come in with clothing appropriate to the day (eg coats if it’s going to be chilly and raincoats if it's going to rain).  Just to reassure you, as the days grow colder, we will always send the children out to play with their coats on and done up. However, they do not always keep them on!

PE
P.E. will happen each Tuesday. Your child is expected to come dressed in their PE kit on this day.

Dance and Music

SW and TG have dance or music lessons on Mondays. Dance and Music will alternate each half term. If it is your child's turn to have dance, they will need their PE kits please.

Book bags
Books/phonics will now be changed to once a week in line with the school’s expectations. Books will be changed on a Tuesday and given back on a Wednesday. Please bring in your child’s book / reading record by Tuesday each week so we can change them. A gentle reminder that books must be returned each week and not be damaged as this will incur a charge.

Reading Practice Books
These are books that are decodable reading books that children will be issued with weekly. Books/phonics will now be changed to once a week in line with the school’s expectations. Books will be changed on a Tuesday and given back on a Wednesday. Please bring in your child’s book / reading record by Tuesday each week so we can change them. If these books are damaged or lost, you will be sent a letter asking for you to provide money to replace them.

Sharing Books
In Hive we love sharing books with each other and highly value reading for pleasure at bedtime or anytime. These books are just to share with your child for fun. You may read to them, with them or they can read them to you later on in the year. Children will be given their opportunity to change and take home these books on Mondays and Fridays.

Home Learning
Home Learning books and tasks will be sent home each Friday. Please check your child's book bags for them. Please complete and return the Home Learning books by the Thursday of the following week.

Information and On-going Updates
Please remember to clearly label every item of clothing your child wears to school particularly hats, scarves and gloves as the weather gets colder. Please make sure that every item of clothing that comes into school is named, so that they are less likely to get lost. As we have now moved SW class downstairs, we will start to use the outdoor learning space more so, we understand that the children enjoy playing in this area in the morning, but we ask if you could please accompany your children in the space to ensure the resources/activities are tided away and ready for the day.

HiveFund
We also ask for your support in contributing £1 per week to the HiveFund. This enables us to buy a few extras eg food for our class cooks and ingredients for making playdough, to support your children’s learning. If you are able to contribute, you can do this weekly, termly or for the whole year. We thank you very much in advance for your assistance.

Start & End of the day
Please try to give your child all their belongings at the start of the day, as we will be giving them all their belongings at the end of the day. This is to support your child's developing their independence and for children’s safety. Please remember that at the start of the day our main focus is the children, and we will not be able to have time to have an extended conversation.
